Our Blue Ribbon Beer!

So the Husband and I entered a homebrew contest at our local brew shop this past weekend, and our Jalapeno Saison took first place!  This was actually the first time we’ve entered a contest with one of our beers, but now it won’t be the last.  There were 30 beers to choose from, and our fellow home brewers were the judges.  There were definitely some interesting beers, and some more traditional fall choices like Oktoberfest and pumpkin ale.  At the end of the day, we kind of felt like something unique was the way to go though.

The only problem with our Jalapeno Saison was the fact that we sort of winged it.  We took some liberties and did not exactly write down all the quantities of ingredients we used or boiling times.  So, sadly, the two bottles we have left in our refrigerator may be the last we ever taste of our award-winning brew.  At least we have an idea though, and we know how many peppers we used…so we have a shot at recreating our masterpiece!

This is a great beer paired with greasy foods like burgers and steaks, or a side of French fries.  For more information on food/beer pairings CraftBeer.com has a great chart here.  They also have a ton of great recipes if you like to cook or bake with beer!  One of my personal favorites is this beer battered asparagus.  Cheers!
