Basics: DIY Coffee Creamer

IMG_3129

Happy Friday!  If you’re among those of us with small children, the weekends call for copious amounts of caffeine.  Weekday or weekend, those kiddies still like to getup early!  The Husband and I are not coffee purists.  We enjoy a little cream and sugar, so typically I’ll buy flavored creamers.  Well, they are fine, but if you know me, I love anything DIY!  Not to mention the fact that if you make your own, you can use any ingredients you like instead of consuming all of the fillers and preservatives in the store bought variety.  I ran across a recipe in Pure Vanilla for homemade creamer and I decided to give it a try.

This is a base recipe, so you can add any flavorings or extracts that you like.  I like to do a cinnamon-vanilla because I’m a cinnamonaholic.  I’ve also done a coconut and maple, which both turned out well.  If you’re looking for a comprehensive list of flavor ideas to go with this base recipe, check out Mrs. Happy Homemaker’s post here!

  • 1 1/2 cups skim milk (or milk/cream of your choice)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Mix all ingredients together.  Makes about 2 cups.  Store in refrigerator for 10 days.
